ICC World Cup 2019: Shankar Basu, Patrick Farhart To Leave After The Tournament

India’s fitness coach Shankar Basu and physio Patrick Farhart have relinquished their duties and they would leave the Indian team after the ongoing World Cup. Both the support staff have requested the board that they don’t want to continue in their respective roles. In fact, the Board of Control for Cricket in India had offered them a new contract, but they have declined it.

Meanwhile, the Indian board has also offered to renew the contract of the remaining support staff as the official tenure is coming to an end after the World Cup.

Both did a fine job for India.

Thus, the Indian board will seek the replacements of Shankar Basu and Patrick Farhart after the conclusion of the World Cup or the West Indies tour.

“Basu has informed the team management of not continuing as a trainer as he needs a break. So has Patrick. The Indian team will look out for their replacements after the World Cup and West Indies series,” said a board official. while speaking to Indian express.

Meanwhile, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri contract is also coming to an end after the World Cup. Shastri had taken over the coaching reins when India had toured Sri Lanka in 2017. Shastri’s contract was until the World Cup. However, as the Indian team has done well under his tutelage, Shatri’s contract is expected to be extended.

On the other hand, India has also done well in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019. India has already made their way into the semifinal and they would face England unless South Africa stuns Australia. Furthermore, India will also need to beat New Zealand to top the points table.

Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have been India’s best players thus far with bat and ball respectively. Rohit Sharma has scored 544 runs whereas Bumrah has taken 16 wickets in the tournament.
