India’s former skipper Sourav Ganguly has an advice for the Indian team before their high octane match against arch-rivals Pakistan. Ganguly who had led India against Pakistan in the 2003 World Cup believes it is prudent not to think that we are favourites. The former southpaw batsman stated that India had made the same mistake heading into the final of the Champions Trophy.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will take on each other at Old Trafford, Manchester on 16th June. India has a great record while playing against Pakistan in the World Cup matches as they have won all the six matches between the two teams. Thus, India will look to repeat their same success against Pakistan.

India has had its wood on Pakistan.

On the other hand, Pakistan will aim to turn the tables. India will begin the contest as favourites, however, as Sourav Ganguly says they don’t need to think that they are favourites.

“India needs to be very careful, don’t go into this game thinking they are the favourites. I think they did that the last time in 2017 in the ICC Champions Trophy finals and Pakistan beat them hands down. It’s going to be a great game of cricket,” commented Ganguly as an expert for Star Sports ahead of the game.

On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly’s former batting opening partner Sachin Tendulkar stated taking Pakistan lightly would be the last mistake India would like to make. The Master Blaster said Pakistan is a dangerous side as they are unpredictable. Pakistan can be really good on one day whereas they can be ordinary on the other.

“Pakistan has always been unpredictable, and they are a dangerous side – so there is no way the Indian team is going to take them lightly. Every step that the Indian team takes forward, we would want to be 100% sure of what we are doing, and it is well thought and well planned,” he said.

Meanwhile, India and Pakistan will like to be at the top of their game. India has had a good start to their World Cup campaign as they have won two out of the three matches they have played with one match ending in no result. On the other hand, Pakistan has lost two matches and they have won only one game with one match ending in no result.
