ICC World Cup 2019: The Best XI Of League Stage

The ongoing ICC World Cup is into the business end. We have seen some great performances from the World Class players who have oozed their skills at the big stage. The world-class players have come up with complete performances and they have seized the crucial stages of the tournament for their respective teams. We take a look at the combined Best XI of the league stages.

India, Australia, New Zealand, and England have confirmed their qualification for the semi-finals and the players of these teams were able to tick the right boxes.

Here is Best XI of the league stage:

Rohit Sharma:

India’s right-hander, Rohit Sharma has been in sublime form in the ongoing tournament. The Indian vice-captain was able to give a solid start to his team and batted at the top of his game. The talisman scored 647 runs at an average of 92.43 and strike rate of 98.78 in the eight matches. In fact, Rohit Sharma also became the second batsman after Kumar Sangakkara to score four centuries in a single World Cup edition. Rohit Sharma also scored one fifty in the league stage. The linchpin batsman became the fourth batsman to more than 600 runs in the tournament.

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma has also become the first batsman to score five centuries in a single edition of the World Cup. Sharma was the leading run-scorer of the league stage.

David Warner

The southpaw batsman made a roaring comeback to International cricket after serving his ball-tampering ban. In fact, Warner was a bit circumspect in some of his innings but he provided great starts to Australia along with his skipper Aaron Finch. The left-hander scored 638 runs in the nine matches of the tournament. The former Australian vice-captain scored his runs at an average of 79.75 and strike rate of 89.48. Warner scored three fifties and three hundred in the league stage.

Warner was the second highest run-getter of the league stage.

Shakib Al Hasan is a serious contender for the Player of the tournament. The gun all-rounder was at his best and scored runs consistently for Bangladesh. Shakib Al Hasan amassed 606 runs at a stunning average of 86.57 and strike rate of 96.04. Thus, he became the third batsmen in the World Cup to surpass the 600-run mark after Sachin Tendulkar and Matthew Hayden.

Furthermore, Shakib Al Hasan scalped 11 wickets and delivered the goods with the ball. He scored five fifties and two hundred in a dream tournament for him. Moreover, Shakib Al Hasan joined the likes of Yuvraj Singh after he scalped a five-wicket haul and scored a fifty against Afghanistan.

Aaron Finch led Australia with aplomb as the defending champions were at their best. Finch was able to provide a strong foundation to the team with David Warner. The right-hander scored 507 runs in nine matches of the league stage. The Australian captain scored his runs at a staggering average of 56.33 and strike rate of 102.22 runs. Finch was able to get the best of his players and thus he is named as the captain of this side. The Australian skipper was also named as the best captain of the tournament by former England captain Michael Vaughan.

Ben Stokes

Ben Stokes has done a terrific job for England as an all-rounder and Stokes was able to bring his A-game to the table. Stokes was able to provide the finishing touches to the England team and has thus far played a key role in England’s success in the ongoing ICC World Cup. The left-handed batsman has accumulated 341 runs in nine matches of the league stages at an average of 54.43 and strike rate of 95.01. Stokes also took seven wickets in nine matches and he is a gun fielder.

Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)

Mushfiqur Rahim did a decent job for the Bangladesh side. Rahim was good behind the wickets as he was able to hang on his chances. Furthermore, the right-hander was able to deliver the goods with the bat for the Tigers. The Bangladesh gloveman scored 367 runs at an average of 52.43 and strike rate of 92.68. Hence, Rahim provided good support to Shakib Al Hasan.

Hardik Pandya

India’s talisman all-rounder was able to add the finishing touches to the innings. Pandya got his runs in quick time and he was able to hit the ground running. The right-hander scored 194 runs in the eight matches he played at an average of 31.13 and a sky-high strike rate of 139.57. Furthermore, Pandya was able to deliver the goods with the ball as he took nine wickets in the eight matches.

Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc continued his love affair with the World Cup. The left-arm seamer was right on the money and breathed down the neck of the opposition batsmen. Starc bowled with express pace and he was able to right line and length. Starc has so far snared 26 wickets in the nine matches of the tournament. The gun fast bowler took five-wicket hauls and he is rewriting the history books with his brilliant bowling. Furthermore, Starc has hit the nail on the coffin with his deadly yorkers.

Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah has done a fantastic job for the Indian team. Bumrah has provided the crucial breakthroughs to the Indian team at the crucial stages of the match. Furthermore, Bumrah has been right on the money with his yorkers in the death overs and he has done a great job.

Bumrah has scalped 17 wickets in the eight matches of the tournament and he is looking good for many. Furthermore, the talisman fast bowler has bowled at an economy rate of 4.49 and average of 19.53

Yuzvendra Chahal

The spinners have not savoured a lot of success in the ongoing World Cup. However, India’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been the best spinner in the ongoing tournament. In fact, Chahal has not been afraid to go for runs and he has hunted for the wickets in the middle overs. Chahal has scalped 11 wickets in the nine matches of the tournament. The leg-spinner has bowled with an economy rate of 5.92 and average of 34.45 in the tourney.

Mustafizur Rahman

Mustafizur Rahman once again impressed with his bowling. Rahman was able to make the most of his variations and bowled with accuracy in the tournament. The southpaw seamer scalped 20 wickets in the eight matches he played for the Tigers. He gave his runs at an economy rate of 6.71 and bowled with an average of 24.20. Furthermore, Rahman scalped two five-wicket hauls in the competition.
