ICC World Cup 2019: Twitter Reacts as Pakistan Pulls Back Australia in Death Overs
Updated - 17 Sep 2019, 01:40 PM
Australia scored 307 after Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed won the toss and decided to bowl first against Australia in the overcast conditions of Taunton. However, Pakistan didn’t get off to a start that they would have hoped for as Aaron Finch and David Warner were able to hit the ground for the team. The Australian skipper was the aggressive partner as the right-hander launched his attack on the opposition.

However, David Warner took a backseat to Finch’s assault. On the other hand, Pakistan bowlers were not able to hit the right areas and the Australian openers made sure that they punished them whenever they veered off the track. Furthermore, the Pakistan fielders didn’t support their bowlers as they dropped catches.
Warner played a fine knock.
Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed bungled Aaron Finch catch when he was on 44 runs whereas Asif Ali also dropped a sitter when David Warner was on 104 runs. Meanwhile, Finch attacked Mohammad Hafeez and took the off-spinner to the cleaner.
However, the Australian skipper top-edged one against Mohammed Amir after he scored a fine knock of 82 runs with the help of six fours and four sixes. Meanwhile, there was a lot of pressure on David Warner. The southpaw had played an uncharacteristic knock against India and had to prove his mettle against Pakistan.
Pakistan was able to pull back Australia in the death overs.
The left-hander kept up with the scoring rate and didn’t let the pressure to build up. The left-hander scored his first ODI hundred after a gap of two years and his first after making the return to International cricket.

However, the disappoint part of the Australian innings was their middle order. All the batsmen were able to get off to a good start but could not convert it into a substantial score. Thus, Pakistan bowlers were able to make a solid comeback as Mohammad Amir scalped five wickets and Shaheen Afridi took two wickets.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Australia’s innings.
Amir's a class apart. Does seem from a distance that every bowler has to just figure it out for themselves. Sarfaraz seems absent. Imran Khan, Allan Border, Dhoni etc would've lit a fire up their seamer's backsides by now to ensure they bowl fuller. #AUSvPAK #CWC19

We all know Maxwell struggles against quick bowlers early on in his innings yet Pakistan still bowling at him with part timers . #gofigure

Ever since his comeback to competitive cricket, Warner has looked like a man on a mission. Focused. Putting a heavy price tag on his wicket. Too slow against India was a fair criticism but then…we haven’t been in his place…none of us has lost as much. Well played ?? #CWC19

Mohd Amir is showing his pedigree today. He always had it but turned up in disguise too often. But class comes through.

I don’t mean to be disheartening but this fielding from Pakistan is rubbish!!
— Ramiz Raja (@iramizraja) June 12, 2019
After a solid start, think aus went hard a bit to early. Not a wicket you can T off from word go. Amir proved if you hit a fuller length there’s enough in it. Won’t be easy for Pakistan to chase down 300 plus. #PAKvAUS #sscricket

Oh man, cannot help but feel so bad for Asif Ali. As if he doesn't have enough going on in his life, is having a nightmare day on the field. #AUSvPAK

australia's tactics are sound. score quickly, declare, get pakistan in, bowl them out and win before the rain comes. #AUSvPAK #cwc19

Today we have seen the best of @davidwarner31 .. Ominous signs for the rest of the tournament me thinks .. #CWC19
— Michael Vaughan (@MichaelVaughan) June 12, 2019
Pitch still has a lot to offer for the pace bowlers. Pakistan hasn’t pitched it full enough…hasn’t caught or fielded well enough. Won’t be surprised if they go on to lose this by 100+ runs. #EarlyCall #AusvPak #CWC19

commentators are harsh on Sarfraz ahmed for picking fast bowler over Shadab Khan but they need to look after the conditions at the start as well. In between, Australia also dropped Zampa for a fast bowler. #AUSvPAK
— Prashi Relangi (@prashirelangi) June 12, 2019
Mohammad Amir is showing why he is so highly rated as a fast bowler. Has been a tough time leading to the tournament but this bloke is showing his pedigree

15th ODI ? for @davidwarner31,
3rd vs Pakistan,
1st in England,
1st under #AaronFinch
2nd in World Cup,
20th in List A,
36th in International Cricket#CWC19 #AUSvPAK #DavidWarner— Akhil Gupta ? (@Guptastats92) June 12, 2019
A hundred for David Warner. He continues his purple patch. He did take his time early on but accelerated just at the right time. I still back him to be tournament's highest run-scorer in this World Cup. #PAKvsAUS
— Gautam Sodhi (@GautamSodhi1) June 12, 2019
Just about every time Shaheen Afridi has pitched the ball up, he’s had Finch or Warner in trouble. Still, insists on banging it in short. Poor from Pakistan, with ball, and in the field. Looks even worse after dropping their best bowler in Shadab. #CWC19 #AUSvPAK
