Sri Lanka have finally produced an outstanding batting effort to post a mammoth total of 338 runs against West Indies at Riverside Ground in Chester-le-Street in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019.

Sri Lanka got off to a brilliant start after West Indies skipper Jason Holder opted to bowl first at Riverside Ground. Dimuth Karunaratne and Kusal Perera combined well for the first time in the World Cup to get their side off to a fluent start. They added 93 runs for the first wicket in 15.2 overs Holder got the better of Karunaratne. The Sri Lankan skipper was slow to start off while Perera took the aggressive role. He took on the likes of Sheldon Cottrell and Oshane Thomas to bring his fifty in just 37 deliveries.

But West Indies bounced back removing both the openers to have Sri Lanka 104 for two. It was an outstanding opportunity for the Caribbeans to cash in with two new batsmen at the crease but in-form Avishka Fernando combined well with Kusal Mendis to revive the innings. Fernando has been in the best of forms for Sri Lanka getting starts in the last few matches. Although Mendis departed after a well made 39, Fernando kept hitting the balls to keep the scoreboard ticking.

Sri Lanka finally got their senior cricketers – Angelo Mathews and Lahiru Thirimanne contributing as they post their 300+ total in this World Cup. In the process, Avishka Fernando brought his first ODI century but got out soon leaving his side at 314 for five in 47.2 overs.  But Thirimmane found some boundaries to post a daunting task for West Indies during the chase.
