ICC World Cup 2019: Umpire Ian Gould To Hang Boots After India-Sri Lanka Match

The veteran International Cricket Council umpire Ian Gould is set to retire after the ongoing 44th match of the ICC World Cup 2019 between India and Sri Lanka. Ian Gould is part of the 16 umpires who were appointed to officiate in the ODI showpiece. In fact, the tournament also has six match referees.

The experienced umpire has officiated in 250 International umpires. Gould made his International umpiring debut in 2006 and since then he has officiated with great success. The ongoing match between Sri Lanka and India is Gould’s 251st International match.

Gould was also the umpire for the big clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the 2011 World Cup semifinal in Mohali. In fact, the English umpire had also played for England in his young days. Gould had played 18 One Day Internationals for the England side. He had kept wickets for England in the 1983 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Ian Gould could not play a Test match for the England side. However, he had taken the crucial catch of Greg Chappell in the Melbourne Test match in 1982-83.

But it as an umpire, Ian Gould is more famous as a personality. He has been accurate with his decision makings and he is regarded as one of the finest umpires to have officiated in the game. Ian Gould was also awarded as the Umpire of the year in 2011.

In fact, the ongoing World Cup is the fourth mega event for Ian Gould. Gould has officiated in 140 One Day Internationals and 74 Test matches.

Meanwhile, India has put their noses in command as they have scalped four wickets against Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan skipper Dimuth Karunaratne had won the toss and decided to bat first. Jasprit Bumrah has scalped two wickets whereas Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket apiece.
