India have made a stunning start to their ICC World Cup 2019 campaign winning three games. Next up, they face Afghanistan on June 22 (Saturday) at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Southampton. Vijay Shankar is likely to retain his place in the playing XI and wish to use his experience of playing in the IPL to tackle Rashid Khan.

Shankar heaps praise on Rashid Khan

The all-rounder had a great World Cup debut against Pakistan. He chipped in with 15 runs before picking two crucial wickets and filled the void created by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s untimely injury. Moreover, Vijay Shankar bowled with great zeal and was on the money to restrict the free flow of runs. But he copped up a blow during the practice session leading to the game against Afghanistan. A toe-crushing yorker from Jasprit Bumrah caught him napping as left the nets immediately. However, he has recovered and will be available for selection against the Afghans.

Addressing the media on the eve of the game, Vijay Shankar hailed Rashid Khan as one of the best limited overs bowlers. The Tamil Nadu is hopeful to use his experience from the IPL to tackle Rashid’s spin at Southampton. Notably, Rashid and Shankar are teammates at the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL and have faced each other in the nets.

“Rashid is one of the best bowlers in limited overs. Having played with him in SunRisers Hyderabad, it’s important for me to pick things from him. I try to pick his variations when I bat against him in the nets,” Vijay Shankar said.
