England opening batsman Jason Roy believes his team can surpass the gargantuan score of 500 in the 50-overs version. In fact, England had posted a mammoth score of 481 runs, which is the maximum score in ODI – against Australia in 2018 while playing at Trent Bridge. Thus, they were very close to 500 runs which looked improbable a decade ago.

England has great power-hitters in their batting line-up who can hit the ground running from the get-go. Their batters bat with an impressive strike rate which makes them favourites to get to the mountain score of 500. In fact, Indian skipper Virat Kohli also claimed that England can get to 500 before any other team.

Jason Roy has done a fine job.

England has played relentless cricket in the last four years and getting scores above 350 has been a norm for them. Eoin Morgan-led team has played with aplomb and the likes of Jonny Bairstow, Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan, Moeen Ali have got runs at a healthy strike rate.

‘Yes,’ said Roy when asked if England can get to the landmark of 500 runs in the World Cup. “We almost did it last year and we had a couple of overs where we were a bit slack in that game so why not?” he was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

In fact, Jason Roy has himself played a key role in England’s success. The right-hander has been instrumental in the success of the team and he has scored 2938 runs in 75 matches he has played with an impressive strike rate of 106.3.

We are expected to do well – Jason Roy.

“We’ve got the expectations every game now, it doesn’t matter if it’s a World Cup or a series – we’re expected to win,’ said Roy. ‘We’ve had that for the last two years or more where we’ve gone into series and everyone has expected us to win it. Even in Australia.

So we’re definitely a group of individuals that don’t shy away from being put on that pedestal. We definitely want to get better, we want to add another level. Just because we’re No 1 in the world doesn’t mean we’re the best ever team to play the game. And that’s where we want to fly to. We want to win the World Cup and be the best-ever team England’s had,” Jason Roy said.

However, England lost their opening warm-up match against arch-rivals Australia by 12 runs. England will start off their World Cup campaign against South African at Kennington Oval on 30th May.
