With the ICC World Cup 2019 approaching close, the debate surrounding Indian National Cricket’s team no four batsman has once again gained the mileage. The management will have to ponder with that position ahead of their tournament opener against South Africa on June 5. But head coach Ravi Shastri feels they have enough options for that position and they will have a flexible side depending on the conditions.

Enough options for no 4: Shastri

Over the past two years, the management have done permutation and combination with that spot. But nobody could show the consistency needed to seal that berth. Ambati Rayudu got the most no of opportunities and was the front-runner to be on the plane to England for the spot. However, the selectors went ahead with young all-rounder Vijay Shankar due to his ability to contribute in all the department. Shankar impressed batting at the top-order during the series against New Zealand and going by his technical skills, Shankar will be a good option in England.

Ravi Shastri didn’t seem worried at all and clearly pointed out that the playing XI will depend as per the conditions. He also clearly mentioned that they have enough options for the second drop batting position in their 15-member squad. Shastri also added that they have all the bases covered and the players are ready to give their 100 percent.

“We are a flexible team. It’s horses for courses, we have got enough ammunition. We have got enough players who can bat at 4. So, I am not really worried about that,” Shastri said to CricketNext. “I think we have got all bases covered. Last thing you want is passengers on the tour. You want to have in those 15 players … who can play anytime, at any given time,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Indian National Cricket Team will play two practice games on May 23 and 28 before the start of the ICC World Cup 2019. The management will look to settle their first XI fro those two matches and going by the current scenarios, it will be a run-fest during the showpiece tournament.
