The ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales is less than a month now, and the teams have started their final leg of preparation ahead of the mega tournament. England is currently playing a five-match ODI series against Pakistan to gear up for the quadrennial competition. All eyes will be on young fast bowler Jofra Archer in the ongoing series who auditions for a place in the World Cup. Meanwhile, former English skipper Michael Vaughan has said that it will be a shock if Archer doesn’t make it to the World Cup and the Ashes squad.

England changed their residency policy to make Jofra Archer available for selection ahead of the World Cup. Previously, the Barbados-born fast bowler has impressed in franchise league all over the globe. He impressed in T20I and ODI debut for England and was also outstanding in the rain-marred ODI against Pakistan. He bowled at 90mph consistently and returned with one for six from four overs including two maidens.

Michael Vaughan sounded immensely happy with the arrival of Jofra Archer. He also seemed confident that the 24-year-old will help England win games in the upcoming marquee event as well as the following Ashes series. The former skipper turned commentator said that he is a gift and one needs to grab him when it comes. England is yet to take a call about his participation in the marquee event.

“I would be absolutely staggered if he’s not taking part in the Ashes series as well as the World Cup,” Vaughan told reporters. He’s just got a gift and when you get that kind of quality you have to get those players involved in all formats of the game. He’ll win England World Cup games, he’ll win them T20 games and I’m very, very confident that he’ll have a big say in winning Test matches this summer as well as down the years,” he added.

Furthermore, Michael Vaughan sounded confident that Jofra Archer will soo make it to the Test team. Vaughan feels Archer has everything that it takes to be a Test player. Apart from his impressive bowling, the young cricketer can also chip in with the bat at the lower order and is also a terrific fielder. The former cricketer jokingly said that he will drag Joe Root – the Test captain out of the bed if Archer is not in the Ashes squad.

“He (also) bats, he fields like a gun. He’ll be playing Test cricket soon. I will drive personally to Sheffield and drag him (Root) out of bed if he (Archer) is not involved in some stage during the Ashes,” he concluded.
