Former England allrounder Andrew Flintoff has once again reiterated his desire of becoming the England head coach. The legendary allrounder has previously been turned down for the role but is still hopeful. England’s current coach Trevor Bayliss’ contract will end at the end of the ongoing Ashes.

The Australian had already decided against extending his contract in addition to signing up for Indian Premier League outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad. England are yet to name his replacement and Flintoff has now expressed his desire again. The 41-year-old is regarded as one of the most iconic players of the modern era, primarily due to his man-of-the-series display during the 2005 Ashes series.

He had previously applied for the vacant position in 2014. However, England had roped in Peter Moores before appointing Bayliss. But despite that setback, Flintoff’s spirit is still high.

“Well they’ve got my email (address) haven’t they?” he said when asked about the possibility of reapplying for the position on Test Match Special.

“It probably isn’t quite right yet. I’d love to be England coach. There are probably three jobs I’d love coaching (wise). Obviously England, Lancashire and Lancashire academy. I’ve got quite a lot on but further down the line that is definitely an ambition or aspiration of mine to coach.

“You would not believe how much cricket I watch. I watch everything, older games. I am around it quite a lot, and I am actually enjoying it a lot. There is a bit going on now but further down the line I’d love to have a go,” he added.

Flintoff, meanwhile, has carved a successful career as a television presenter after retiring from the game. He is the presenter of motoring magazine show Top Gear and a leading figure on the comedy panel show A League of Their Own.

Flintoff is regarded one of the finest allrounders to have played for England. He played 79 Tests, 141 ODIs and seven T20s for England and captained his country across two formats.
