Ashish Nehra has become an inspiration for every Indian cricketer who is on the cusp of retirement or is not a part of the team. Even Yuvraj Singh had said he had taken inspiration from Nehra to make a comeback to the national side.

Virender Sehwag, the former India cricketer, has also cited the example of Nehra for other cricketers to make a comeback to the national side. Sehwag was answering to a question whether Yuvraj can make a comeback to the national side to which he replied by citing the example of Nehra,

“That’s up to the selectors. If he performs in domestic cricket, or passes (yoyo), then why not? If Ashish Nehra can make a comeback at 36, why not Yuvi,” he said on the sidelines of Election se Selection campaign of Star Sports.

Nehra made a comeback to the Indian cricket team for the tour of Australia in 2016 after almost five years. He was 36 then and continued to play until the age of 38. He retired on November 1 when he played his last international game at his home ground in Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium against New Zealand.

Coming to Yuvraj, he recently celebrated his 36th birthday and can make a comeback to the national side if he performs well in the domestic cricket, as Sehwag reckoned. He has already cleared the yo-yo test, and if he performs well in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Super League, then it would not just attract the attention of selectors, but also IPL franchises, who would not be reluctant to spend big bucks on him.

Last year too, riding on his success in domestic cricket, Yuvraj made a comeback to the ODI team after three years. Prior to the England ODI series, his last played an ODI way back in 2013 against South Africa. He went on to play the ICC Champions Trophy and also the series against the Windies but got dropped for Sri Lanka tour, as he failed to clear the yo-yo test.

He had already cleared the fitness test, and is on the verge of making a comeback. The sole thing he needs to do is to score runs in domestic cricket, which will help his cause.
