Former Indian National Cricket team fast bowler Karsan Ghavri feels Mohammed Shami, who has found his rhythm in the limited overs will be essential for the country in the ICC World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.

Meanwhile, the Bengal pacer has been in his peak form in the recent ODI series against Australia and New Zealand. He picked six wickets in Australia in three games and backed it up with nine in four games against the Kiwis. His excellent line and length also earned him the man of the series award. Shami is an improved bowler (now) and is more focused on cricket. After whatever has happened to him in the last two years, he has come back very strongly. He is bowling (at) the best of his career,” Ghavri told PTI.

“100 percent. He should be in the squad for the World Cup because in the English conditions, he will be a key bowler,” said Ghavri when asked whether Mohammed Shami should be on the plane to England.

Needs to add a yorker

The 28-year-old Mohammed Shami became the fastest Indian to claim 100 wickets in ODIs during the first ODI against New Zealand. India, eventually, won the series by a 4-1 margin. He has got variety and can bowl in-swinger and out-swinger. Accuracy is also there. If he develops a good yorker, it will be like an icing on the cake. His line and length is good and can generate a good speed.

Shami bowls regularly in (range of) 140-145 (kph) and if he keeps the accuracy, it is going to be handy for himself and the Indian team,” he concluded.
