MS Dhoni has been out of action since the end of last year’s World Cup in July but unsurprisingly, he has dominated the news. The reason behind it is the constant confusion regarding his international career. At 38, MS Dhoni is not getting any younger but he still decided to take a sabbatical from the game and is now nowhere close to returning to the team.

The selectors have already stated that they are moving on from MS Dhoni and would try out youngsters. The selectors have remained true to their words and have given chances to the likes of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul and Sanju Samson. But at the same time, neither the selectors nor the BCCI have stated that it is all over for MS Dhoni.

And so when BCCI dropped the World Cup-winner from the list of centrally contracted players, a lot of eyebrows were raised. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was asked about the contract snub but he decided not to make any comment over it. But while others Dhoni have remained tight-lipped on the future of the former India skipper, Team India head coach Ravi Shastri once again spoke on it.

Ravi Shastri once again insisted that the upcoming IPL will be crucial to Dhoni’s future in the Indian team. Ravi Shastri stated that the picture will become clear after the IPL. Not only that, the head coach also said that MS Dhoni could also retire right after the IPL if he does not feel good.

“Exactly what I wanted to ask you. There is IPL coming. Uske baad tum dekho. Everyone will know. He will know, selectors will know, the captain will know seeing him, and more important than anything else he will know. What I’m trying to tell the people is he is the last person to impose himself on anything. You know him. I know him,” Ravi Shastri told The Hindu.

“For years, you know that he’s been dead honest when it comes to things of that sort, like when he gave up Test cricket. There was no thing of 100 Tests because he is not the guy who will impose on himself. I don’t know if he started practicing as yet or not, but I’m sure if he’s keen on the IPL, everything will come out now and he will be ready. For all you know, he may start the IPL, if he doesn’t feel good he’ll say ‘Thank you very much,'” Shastri added.
