New Zealand’s wicket-keeper batsman, BJ Watling admits he’s confident of performing well on his return and is looking forward to the challenges. Meanwhile, Watling made a comeback to Test series against England from an injury.

Watling sustained a hip injury and missed the home Tests against Windies. Tom Blundell replaced him and showed his might cracking a century in his debut game. He continued his form into the pink ball warm-up match against England where he compiled a gritty 131.

I am looking to do well:

Watling is confident of doing well if he gets an opportunity and is looking forward to the challenges. With both the keepers eyeing for a spot, Watling said he is not feeling the pressure.

I think you feel pressure going into any Test and I’m just looking to do as well as I can over the two matches,” Watling said. “[Tom] is a quality keeper. We’ve got a good young crop coming through which is good to see and it definitely motivates you,” he added.

Watling started playing competitive games at the fag end of February after recovering from the injury. He played in the Ford Trophy and also took part in Plunket Shield matches, to prove his fitness.

I’m feeling really good. The body has been good for the last couple of months, been playing a fair bit of cricket for ND,” he said. “It’s something I monitor and work on every day at the gym but I haven’t felt anything over the last two months,” Watling mentioned.

Meanwhile, Watling, who has featured in 52 Test for the Black Caps, was withdrawn from the Northern Knights set-up for the Plunket Shield tie against Canterbury. He along with Tom Latham, Jeet Raval, Henry Nicholls and Colin de Grandhomme was added to the Test squad.

New Zealand resumed their practice in Auckland after an off day and will take on England in the first ever Day-Night Test at home from March 22.
