Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan applauded Yasir Shah as he became the fastest bowler to scale 200 Test wickets. In the meantime, he broke an 82-year-old record set by Clarrie Grimmett.

On the fourth day of the last Test against New Zealand, Yasir Shah did not merely break an  82-year-old record; he smashed it. Just after dismissing William Somerville, he claimed his 200th Test wicket in his 33rd game. However, Grimmett, on the other hand, had reached the figures in his 36th Test.

Previously, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also had a similar opportunity to create the record in 2016. But the bowler fell short by one Test, reaching the milestone in his 37th Test. On the other hand, former Australian pacer Dennis Lillee and former Pakistan paceman Waqar Younis, both completed their 200 wickets in 38 Tests. Another South African great Dale Steyn reached the figures in his 39th Test and filled up the top five slots in the list.

Yasir Shah has been in prolific form bagging 22 wickets from the first two games with eight wickets in the first innings of the second Test. He then followed it up with six wickets in the second innings to level the series for Pakistan. In his short span of a career, Shah has become one of the primary spinners for Pakistan. The best figures of 8/41 came in the second Test against New Zealand in November 2018.

Furthermore, Yasir Shah became the first bowler after Anil Kumble to pick up ten wickets in a single day of Test cricket. Current Pakistan President Imran Khan congratulated the spinner for achieving the feat, and he wants to see much more from him in future.
