There is just no stopping Rohit Sharma in the ongoing World Cup. With every passing game, the India opener is just setting the bar higher. On Saturday, Rohit Sharma scored his fifth century of the World Cup as India crushed Sri Lanka by seven wickets to end the league phase on a strong note. The Men in Blue also finished at the top of the points table.

India will now take on New Zealand in their semifinal clash on Tuesday (July 9) in Manchester. Rohit scored his third consecutive century and fifth of the tournament to propel India to their seventh win of the campaign. Along with Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul also scored his maiden World Cup ton. The two added 189 runs for the first wicket which all but put the game to the bed.

Chasing 265, India crossed the finishing line in the 44th over by losing just three wickets. Rohit Sharma scored 103 while Rahul scored 111. Rohit became just the second Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to score more than 600 runs in a single edition of the World Cup. But Rohit Sharma is in no mood to slow down. Ahead of the semifinal, the India opener has warned the opposition that he is in England to win the World Cup and not to create records.

“I am not here for records, I am here to play cricket, I am here to score runs and lift the Cup. This is what I am here for. I am not looking at those things at all,” Rohit Sharma said during the post-match press conference.

When asked whether he would rate hitting five centuries in the World Cup as his biggest feat, Sharma said:

“Not yet, if you win the World Cup then I probably would, if not then I cannot. Because eventually winning the game is important, no matter how many runs you score. For us as cricketers, it is important to get the job done because we all have been looking for this World Cup which comes every four years, you have to wait four years for this. So, for us, the job is to win the final.”
