Former Australian legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath believes James Anderson is the best fast bowler in the home conditions. Anderson who is celebrating his 37th birthday has the skills of moving the red ball in the swinging conditions. The fast bowler has savoured great success for England over the years with his accurate line and length.

The talisman fast bowler has taken 575 wickets in 148 Test matches. Thus, Anderson is the leading wicket-taker in the red ball version as a fast bowler. Only Muttiah Muralitharan, Shane Warne and Anil Kumble have taken more wickets than the veteran England pacer.

Anderson had gone past the tally of Glenn McGrath record of 563 wickets in the last year home series against India.

“On home soil with the Dukes ball, he’s the best in the world bowling in those (English) conditions,” McGrath told the Sun in an interview.

“He is a big player and if he has a big series for England, Australia will find it tough. If Australia bat well and can get on top of him, that’ll make a massive impact on their chances,” McGrath added.

The fast bowler will also have the chance to complete 600 Test wickets in the upcoming Ashes series. Thus, Glenn McGrath believes it would be difficult for the modern-day bowlers to go past James Anderson’s record. Any bowler will need to play at least 150 Test matches and the modern-day players are hardly going to play these many Test matches.

“But Jimmy is on his way to 600 Test wickets, which is absolutely incredible.”

“Jimmy’s got the record now and it won’t be beaten,” said McGrath. “For a fast bowler to beat whatever record he sets, they are going to have to play 150 Tests-plus.”

Meanwhile, Anderson had missed out on the one-off Test match against Ireland due to a right leg calf injury. However, the England pack leader is expected to be back in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston.
