Legends have a way of leaving some footprints even when they exit. Retirements are something that will lead to starting of something new or unique. Another Indian cricketing legend, Gautam Gambhir announced his retirement from international cricket from all forms on December 4.

Meanwhile, former Indian opener, Gautam Gambhir had won two World Cups. Furthermore, the fiery batsman has not represented his country since 2016. After the announcement, Gambhir said he would play his last game for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy match against Andhra. However, the game is scheduled to be played at his home ground, Feroz Shah Kotla beginning on December 6.

Gambhir’s contribution towards Indian cricket team

As per records, Gambhir has made 58 Test appearances for India scoring 4154 runs at an average of 41.95. Meanwhile, Gautam was moreover a vital member of the team that rose to number one in the Test rankings in 2009. In ODIs, the 37-year-old has accumulated 5238 runs and also top-scored for India in the 2011 World Cup final victory over Sri Lanka.

Moreover, during the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, Kolkata Knight Riders won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. In the 2018 Indian Premier League (IPL), Gambhir left the KKR and joined Delhi Daredevils. The 2018 IPL season was severely critical for Gambhir, and later, he relinquished the captaincy role because of poor form.

However, hours after Delhi Daredevils renamed its franchise to Delhi Capitals, Gautam Gambhir, who was roped in as Delhi captain for Indian Premier League 2018, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket.

Furthermore, Gautam Gambhir revealed he would miss the Indian dressing room a lot. He also said he wouldn’t mind a repeat of his career despite having a lot of pains and failures in his cricketing life.

“Cricket in my next life too but with a rider. Wanna open the batting and bowling too.”
