Former Team India batter Ajay Jadeja has heaped massive praise on the left-arm-spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel. The 52-year-old said that the all-rounder has Indian captain Rohit Sharma-like calmness and composure.
Axar Patel played a key role in India’s win over Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 first Test in Nagpur. He scored excellent 84 runs off 174 balls, with 10 fours and 1 maximum. The all-rounder showed a batting exhibition against the strong Aussie attack and stitched together outstanding 88 runs with Ravindra Jadeja. Also, he was involved in a good 52 runs partnership with Mohammed Shami and 20 runs stand with Mohammed Siraj.

In an interaction on Cricbuzz, Ajay Jadeja lauded Axar’s batting brilliance and recalled his match-winning knock against West Indies.
“It’s not like he has done it suddenly. Ever since he’s come into the Indian team, he has kept on performing. I remember there was this game in West Indies where all our big batters had failed and from there, he won India the game. So he has that batting skills which the Indian team too respects. And he did it again. The wicket was not easy to bat on. The calmness, composure and solidarity displayed by Rohit Sharma were seen in Axar Patel too. He batted as if there were no demons on this wicket,” Jadeja said on Cricbuzz.

Jadeja was referring to the second ODI between India and West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad. Axar Patel smashed an amazing 64* runs in that game last July to help India chase down 312 in the last over.
If I have to rate all three all-rounders, then I will place Axar Patel on top – Ajay Jadeja
The 52-year-old further praised Axar Patel for delivering good performances with both the bat and ball. The former India batter also rates Axar higher than the legendary all-round duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja.
“He is one of those players rises to the occasion – when the opportunity provides or when the team is in trouble or when all eyes are on him – and takes his game to the whole different level. I have heard things about him such as he is very casual, but someone who enjoys his game. But he improves when needed. If Ravindra [Jadeja] has taken 30 Test matches to improve his batting, he has taken just 4, I guess. He is performing his primary role of a bowler with aplomb but in batting too he has made rapid strides. If I have to rate all three all-rounders, then I will place Axar on top,” Ajay Jadeja added.
