Jason Holder was disappointed as India thrashed West Indies by 257 runs in the second and final Test. The defeat ended a wretched series for West Indies at home. While everyone was expecting West Indies to give India a strong fight in their backyard, Jason Holder and Co. fared disastrously. West Indies could not win a single game against India across formats in the full-fledged series.

The hosts lost the T20Is 3-0, ODIs 2-0 before being thrashed 2-0 in Tests. It was yet another poor day on the field for West Indies as they were all out for just 210 while chasing an improbable 468 to level the series.

Resuming on 45 for 2,  West Indies managed to start the day on a positive note and added 52 runs before losing their first wicket when Roston Chase was dismissed. But things started going downhill soon. One run later, they lost Shimron Hetmyer too to find themselves reeling at 98 for 4 from 97 for 2.

Jermaine Blackwood and Brooks stopped the rot for a while but they could only the delay the inevitable for a while. Once Jasprit Bumrah broke the stand by dismissing Blackwood, West Indies’ remaining batsmen fell like a pack of cards.

This was the first time, West Indies managed to cross the 200-run mark in three innings. In the second innings of the first Test, they were all out for just 100. In the first innings of this Test, they could only muster 117 which saw India take a mammoth lead of 299. Speaking after the game, Jason Holder rued his team’s failure to play a ‘complete game of cricket’.

He also sounded clueless when asked about how to improve the team’s batting while he had some words of praise for the bowlers.

“Obviously disappointed, we didn’t play a complete game of cricket in both the games. We need to put up the scores and fight out those tough periods, it’s a tough question on how to fix the batting. It’s an individual thing, we need to take ownership of our performances. The bowlers gave their 100% as we’ve been on the field every single day of this Test series, and the bowlers have delivered. It’s been a heavy workload on the bowlers, and at no point have they dropped their heads,” said Jason Holder.

“They knew our bowling was good – they made us work hard for those wickets. They are a quality side and they played quality cricket, we didn’t bat well enough. That’s the quality of their side. As a batter you need to get in, only then it gets easier. You had to work hard for your runs,” he added.
