Faf du Plessis, former South African captain, recently reminisced about the thrashing that his side received during the One-day International series against the visiting Indians back in 2018.

India visited the rainbow nation for a full tour consisting of three Tests, six ODIs and three Twenty20 Internationals. While the Faf du Plessis-led outfit won the Test series 2-1, India turned the tables on their hosts in the ODI series, shellacking them 5-1.

Virat Kohli scorer 558 runs in six games which included three hundred while the wrist spin pair of Kuldeep and Chahal spun a web around the hosts to give India their maiden Test series win in South Africa.

Du Plessis said that while South Africa was missing some key players due to injury, he went on to admit that India was just too good for them, and according to him, it was like ‘men taking on the boys’

In the one-dayers we had 3 or 4 big injuries. I broke my finger, Quinton got injured and I think Hashim got injured. So, basically our batting line-up was gone. And then India bulldozed all over us, they beat us 5-0 [5-1]. It was men taking on the boys. They were just too good in that series,” Du Plessis said on the Sony Ten Pitstop Show.

Faf Du Plessis also went on to recount the three-match Test series, adding that it was one of the best series that he has been involved in his career.

Jasprit Bumrah made his Test debut in that series and he along with the likes of Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma were absolutely brilliant throughout the rubber and according to the former Proteas captain, India’s potent fast bowling attack was one of the main reasons behind that series being such a competitive one.

We beat the Indian Test team 2-1 but it was a great Test series. That was one of the best series I have been involved in. Because India for the first time had a pace attack that could take on South Africa in South Africa and Australia, that is why they were so successful,” Faf du Plessis said

Bumrah made his debut in that Test series. We were actually hoping that he doesn’t make his debut. Because I knew how good he was. He has got that beautiful wrist that is quick on you, almost like Archer. They are similar type bowlers. Their fast bowlers were really good. So that series was fought on an even keel all the time. That was one of the best series to be involved in, obviously we won it 2-1. India was a proper powerful team then as well.” Faf du Plessis added.
