The way South Africa had performed in recent years, many had expected them to give India a tough fight in the just-concluded Test series. South Africa have been one of the best if not the best touring side in the last 20 years. However, the Proteas fared poorly as India whitewashed them in the three-match series.

The Virat Kohli-led side thoroughly outplayed the visitors in all the three matches. The hosts won the first Test by 203 runs before winning the second one by an innings and 137 runs. In the just-concluded third Test, India beat the Proteas by an innings and 202 runs to register their biggest win over South Africa in Tests.

South Africa could add only one run to their overnight score of 132 for 8 before Shahbaz Nadeem dismissed Theunis de Bruyn and Lungi Ngidi on successive deliveries in just the second over of the day.

India had piled up a mammoth 497 for 9 (declared) in their first innings. Rohit Sharma starred with the bat by scoring his first Test double century. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja also made big contributions by scoring a century and a fifty respectively as India recovered from 39 for 3 to post the big total.

In reply, South Africa were all out for just 162 runs in their first innings. Their fortunes did not change in the second innings either after they were asked to follow on.  They were reeling at 36 for 5 at one stage before the lower-order provided some resistance to take the score past the 100-run mark. But the fight didn’t make much difference as India wrapped up the proceedings inside two overs on day four.

And after the game, the players from both the teams once again proved why cricket is called a gentlemen’s game. Keeping aside the result in the series, the players were seen talking to each other in the dressing room. The BCCI posted a picture where India skipper Virat Kohli could be seen talking to his South Africa counterpart Faf du Plessis and others.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
