Heart of the matter:

India’s senior batsman Yuvraj Singh managed to shift the focus of many from his poor form for a while when he came out to bat wearing India’s Champions Trophy jersey during the second One-Day International against Windies on Sunday (June 25).

According to ICC’s clause for ICC’s tournament, a team or an individual is not allowed to endorse a brand commercial in the tournaments so the jersey for a series is different than that used during the ICC events. However, Yuvraj seemed to have forgotten it as he came out donning the Champions Trophy jersey.

India vs West Indies: That's Not The Right Jersey Yuvraj Singh!

It was certainly a mistake instead of anything else from the India star as he came out to field in the proper jersey which had the sponsors logo on it.

Yuvraj’s poor form in focus:

After making a grand return to the ODI team following a three-year gap, the southpaw looked set to cement his place in the playing eleven. However, the 35-year old’s recent struggles has shown that he is well past his prime.

After a quickfire half-century against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy opener, Yuvraj’s sequence of scores in the tournament was 7, 23 not out, 22. Even in the ongoing series in the Caribbeans, he has struggled to get going, managing 4 and 14 in the first 2 ODIs.

Moreover, his poor fielding has only attracted more critics. Recently, former India captain and current India U-19 coach Rahul Dravid had said that team management should have a clear cut policy whether they want Yuvraj going into the 2019 World Cup. And with only a couple of years left before the next World Cup, time is running out for the World Cup-winning star. The presence of a solid bench strength will also pile more pressure on Yuvraj who is looking out of sorts right now.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
