Australia have named Andrew Tye as Pat Cummins‘ replacement for the upcoming three-match T20 series against India. Cummins was initially a part of the the T20 squad but the team management decided to send the pacer home after the conclusion of the ongoing ODI series in order to give him the much-needed rest ahead of the Ashes.

Tye, who took a fifer on his IPL debut this year, will bolster the pace attack that already consists of Nathan Coulter-Nile, Kane Richardson and uncapped left-armer Jason Behrendorff. Tye, however, has not played any competitive game since injuring his left shoulder while playing for the Gujarat Lions in the IPL. But prior to his untimely departure, Tye made a big impression with the ball, as he finished the tournament as Gujarat’s leading wicket-taker with 12 scalps at 11.75 in just 6 of the possible 14 games.

The T20 specialist was expected to return to action for Gloucestershire in the NatWest T20 Blast but could not play as his recovery was taking him beyond the timetable for the tournament. One of the best performers in the recent seasons of Big Bash League, Tye has represented Australia in 5 T20Is so far, taking 5 wickets at 37.60.

Meanwhile, Australia have already lost the ongoing five-match ODI series after the loss in the first three games and will be desperate to do well in the T20I series. Moreover, the series will give the visitors a chance to end their six-match losing streak against the Men in Blue and also to avenge for the humiliating 3-0 whitewash at home last year.

The three-match series will start on October 7 in Ranchi before the teams travel to Guwahati and Hyderabad for the remaining games.
