Team India drew the first blood in the five-match ODI series by beating Australia by six wickets in the first ODI in Hyderabad. Chasing 237, India were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 99 for 4. However, unbeaten fifties from MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav and the resulting unbeaten stand of 141 took India home comfortably.

1. Aaron Finch became the 29th Australian cricketer to play 100 or more ODIs for the nation. He also became only the third Australian after Dean Jones and Craig McDermott to bag a duck in his hundredth ODI. He also became the sixth Australian ODI captain to score a duck against India.

2. India registered their first win over Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. Before this game, India had played two games against Australia at this venue in 2007 and 2009 and has lost both the games.

3. The unbeaten 141-run stand between MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav is India’s 2nd highest partnership in ODI cricket for 5th or lower wicket while chasing at home.

4. India’s chase of 237 is their highest successful chase in ODI cricket without any of their top three scoring a fifty since the 288-run target they chased against Zimbabwe in the last World Cup.

6. Virat Kohli completed his 12000 runs in List A cricket in 248 innings. Kohli is the 50th player to achieve this milestone and the fastest to get there. Former Australia batsman Michael Bevan previously held the record after achieving the milestone in 297 innings.

7.Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile shared a 62-run partnership for the seventh wicket. It was Australia’s second highest seventh-wicket partnership in India in the first innings of an ODI. The record is 102* between Steve Waugh and Greg Dyer in  Delhi on 2 October 1986.

8. Shikhar Dhawan is the second Indian opening batsman to score a golden duck against Australia at home ODI. Virender Sehwag was the first Indian opening batsman to get out on first ball against Australia at home.
