Australia kept the 5 match ODI series against India alive after registering a 32 runs victory in the 3rd ODI in Ranchi to make the scoreline 2-1 in favour of India. It was a brilliant all-round performance from the visiting team which saw them winning the clash quite convincingly in the end. The victory was largely built around a terrific century by Usman Khawaja. He shared a sensational stand of 193 runs with Aaron Finch for the opening wicket which got them off to a great start.

It was Virat Kohli who put the Australians in to bat. Despite a great start, the visitors faltered in the last few overs which prevented them from scoring anything beyond 313. At one stage they looked well in pursuit of a total in excess of 350. However, the Indian bowlers made a terrific comeback in the final few overs to restrict the visiting team to 313.

Despite conceding 64 runs in his 10 overs spell, Kuldeep Yadav again returned as the chief wicket-taker with 3 wickets. The home team got off to the worst possible starts losing openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan in quick succession. It was brilliant bowling from Australia. Ambati Rayudu was castled by a peach of a delivery from Pat Cummins.

After a brief partnership between Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni, the latter was dismissed by a well tossed up delivery from Adam Zampa. Despite Dhoni’s wicket, Kohli kept India in the match with his attacking approach. He kept counter-attacking and took the Australian bowlers to the cleaners. He smashed his 41st ODI ton in Ranchi and kept India in the game till the final phase of the match.

His knock of 123 came in just 95 deliveries and was studded with 16 fours and a six. Following his dismissal, it was always going to be an uphill task for the home team. Eventually, Australia completed a 32 runs victory. With just a day to go for the 4th ODI to be played in Mohali, the visiting team, in particular, will look to level the series. On the other hand, India will look to seal the series. However, it has been confirmed by Sanjay Bangar that MS Dhoni will be rested for the final couple of ODI’s.

Date and Venue:

The match will be played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. The match will be played on 10th March.

Pitch Conditions

The pitch at Mohali has traditionally helped the fast bowlers. However, in the last few years, surfaces prepared in Mohali have been slower and offered more help to the spinners. The match which is slated t be played tomorrow is expected to be a belter of a batting wicket. However, just like the Ranchi pitch, it will also have something on offer for both the pacers and the spinners.

Weather Conditions

Summer hasn’t yet approached in Mohali like other parts in India. The temperature is expected to hover around 20 degrees range in the afternoon. The temperature is expected to drop during the 2nd half of the match. There is no rain forecast for the match. However, a gentle breeze might make the evening a bit more chilly for the players and the spectators.

Match Prediction

The home team suffered a hiccup in Ranchi after losing the 3rd ODI by 32 runs. Despite a valiant knock from Virat Kohli, they finished in the losing side. However given the firepower of the current Indian team, it won’t be a surprise if they come back roaring in Mohali and seal the series. Hence I will go in favour of the home team in the 4th ODI.
