It is always a good feeling for a player when his maiden hundred helps his team in winning the match. Australia’s southpaw batsman Usman Khawaja was delighted after his team got one back in the five-match ODI series against India. The visitors won the third Ranchi ODI by 32 runs after Aaron Finch and Usman Khawaja added 193 runs for the opening partnership. Both the openers batted at the top of their game to bring their best to the table.

Finch was able to return back to form as the Australian skipper got the much-needed runs under his belt. The right-hander scored 93 runs with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. On the other hand, Usman Khawaja was awarded the Man of the match for scoring his maiden ODI hundred. The southpaw batsman scored 11 fours and one six in his match-winning knock.

Khawaja played a fine knock.

Usman Khawaja said while talking in the post-match presentation, “It is nothing like that. Especially against a very good Indian side. It was nice to get that win. The bowlers bowled beautifully. We weren’t quite sure what a good score is, Finchy started well and the lower-order did a good job taking us over 300. My highest score was 98, so it was nice to get those extra two runs today”.

In fact, Usman Khawaja had the rub of the green on his side as his catch was fluffed by Shikhar Dhawan at the backward point region. Khawaja was on just 18 runs at that point and then went on to add 86 runs after getting a reprieve.

Khawaja brought his best to the table as he played some classical shots. The left-hander also made good use of the reverse sweep to punish the Indian bowlers. Consequently, this knock must have added a lot of confidence to Khawaja’s bag. The left-hander will like to continue his good form going in the ODI series.
