Indian National Cricket team skipper Virat Kohli looked in sublime touch as he brought his 40th ODI hundred during the second ODI against Australia at Nagpur on March 5 (Tuesday). Meanwhile, this will be good signs for the home side as they are on their final leg of preparation ahead of the ICC World Cup.

Meanwhile, Australia skipper Aaron Finch surprised one and all opting to bowl first, but his bowlers didn’t let him down. Pat Cummins struck early in the first over to dismiss Virat Kohli’s deputy Rohit Sharma for a golden duck. Although Shikhar Dhawan and Kohli tried to bail India out, but a Glenn Maxwell delivery struck Dhawan’s pad to provide a breakthrough. The Aussie all-rounder is currently going through a purple patch as he is chipping in with both bat and ball. Since then, the Indian skipper and Vijay Shankar -promoted to no five, looked in complete control of things. The pair added 81 runs for the fourth wicket picking up boundaries at ease. However, an unfortunate departure of Shankar (46) led to a collapse as Adam Zampa pounced on dismiss MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav – last match hero, in consecutive deliveries.

Kohli reaches his 40th hundred in style

Struggling 171 for six, Virat Kohli stood tall in the middle to take his side on his shoulder. He looked in great touch rotating the strike and picking odd boundaries. The talismanic run-scorer brought his 40th century with a boundary off Nathan Coulter-Nile through the backward-point region. This is Virat Kohli’s first century against Australia at home in 18 international innings as his last century against the Aussies came in 2013 also at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. Moreover, Virat Kohli is only the 6th player to score 9000 runs in International cricket as captain and the quickest to get there – in 159 innings. No player before Kohli even scored 7000 International runs as captain in 159 innings.
However, Virat Kohli departed soon after holing out deep mid-wicket at 120 runs. The tail followed soon after as the Australian bowlers made a superb comeback to contain India for 250 runs.
