Did anyone spare a thought on India being so ruthless against Kiwis, especially, in their home conditions? They have secured the series in the first three games and now, gave themselves a good chance to test their bench strength ahead of ICC World Cup 2019. Meanwhile, fielding coach R Sridhar wants to make the most of the remaining couple of dead-rubbers.

India has rested the regular skipper Virat Kohli for the remaining part of the tour while Shubman Gill is pretty much excited to get his maiden cap for the national team. On the other hand, there are likes of Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammad Siraj, who are waiting to press their case further.

Only Seven games left for the team – R Sridhar

Meanwhile, the fielding coach quoted that winning the game for the country is their top priority. But, in the meantime, they want to secure that with a new set of players, who are warming the bench for a long time now. Meanwhile, he also pressed the importance of giving them the game time.

“See, winning is a habit which we would obviously want to continue. When you’re one-up or three-up against a team, you want to continue with the form; you want to don’t want to let down the intensity. At the same time, we also need to give game-time to our reserves. There are just seven games remaining for us before we play our first World Cup game,” R Sridhar quoted.

Reserves will get benefit:

Sridhar believes that it is tough for the players to come in at the crucial phase of ICC World Cup and deliver the goods when they were not given enough game time. He added that this is the time, which is a must for better results in future games.

”We should not end up in a situation where the main eleven has played and the reserves have not got enough game time, and then suddenly they have to play an important crucial game in the World Cup. And that is what we would like to achieve from the remaining two games in this series and no better place than New Zealand to simulate the conditions in England in June.,” Sridhar said on the eve of the fourth ODI between the sides in Hamilton.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the youngsters in a remaining couple of games. Though the next couple of games won’t impact series result, the performances would surely help them to get a place in ICC World Cup 2019.
