Lockie Ferguson, the fast bowler from New Zealand, is confident that his side will bounce back in the second ODI against Indian National Cricket team after their eight-wicket loss in the Napier ODI.

Meanwhile, the hosts went down in the first outing to go trail 1-0 in the five-match ODI series.  Mohammed Shami started off on a great note knocking over both the openers in successive overs. Skipper Kane Williamson’s call of opting to bat faltered as Yuzvendra Chahal soon had two return catches to have the hosts down to 76 for 4. Kuldeep Yadav then joined the party and bagged wickets (four) for fun as the spin twins helped India bowl New Zealand out for 157.

Meanwhile, India were never really bothered in the run chase. The sun did bother the batsmen by coming right in the line of the batsman’s view, forcing play to stop for about half an hour. Shikhar Dhawan held one end tight and alongside Virat Kohli, ensured it was a cakewalk for India. It was India’s first win against New Zealand in the land of Kiwis since 2009.

It was a bad day in business

New Zealand failed to perform well as a team; however, Lockie Ferguson admits that this can happen in a game of cricket. Meanwhile, the Black Caps were coming from the back of a solid summer, and Ferguson believes they will fight back.

Not our best performance for sure for the summer, I know putting runs on the board was a challenge yesterday, we know that in the camp,” said Ferguson.

It’s just one of those things that can happen in cricket and I guess when you play a team like India you want to keep attacking a team like that and make sure you fight back,” he added.

Looking forward to the 2nd ODI

In addition to, Lockie Ferguson also noted that they had a look where they went wrong in the first ODI and will make sure they don’t repeat it in the second game. With a strong record in the Bay Oval, Ferguson stated that they are looking forward to the second game.

It didn’t go our way yesterday and so it was a bit of a challenge for sure. The boys have looked at what went wrong, and we’ll definitely park it and look to continue our good form into Tauranga where we have been very strong. So, looking forward to game two,” he concluded.

The second of the five-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is on January 26 (Saturday) at the Bay Oval.
