India vs New Zealand 2019: Rohit Sharma On Brink Of Breaking Major Sourav Ganguly Record

Of late, the stalwart players of Indian National Cricket Team are often staying on the verge of breaking something special record in almost every game. However, such has been their consistency in the International cricket. Meanwhile, the latest to stand at the doors of a brilliant record is the current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

The flamboyant batsman is just one century away from surpassing the former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly in the list of most century scorers for the Indian team. The Mumbai batsman is currently equalled with Sourav Ganguly at 22 centuries for India. Currently, they both stand at the third place in the list of highest century-scorers for India.

Rohit Sharma needs one century to surpass Sourav Ganguly:

The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is at top of the chart with 49 ODI centuries in his career while the run-machine of India Virat Kohli is in second place with 39 tons. The next in the chart is Rohit Sharma alongside Sourav Ganguly with 22 centuries.

The closest to Rohit Sharma is his partner in crime, Shikhar Dhawan, who is at 4th place with 15 centuries. Dhawan is currently equalled with Virender Sehwag in the chart. Sehwag also scored 15 centuries in his tremendous career. Another active member in the top 10 charts is Mahendra Singh Dhoni with 9 centuries.

Rohit Sharma is third highest run-scorer in the ongoing series:

Currently, Rohit Sharma is leading the Indian team in New Zealand in absence of the regular skipper Virat Kohli. After winning three games in a row, India lost their game under his captaincy thus avoiding the possibility of whitewashing home side. However, he would like to cover the loss with a victory in the final ODI.

The flamboyant batsman is placed third in the highest run-scorer list of the series so far. He knocked 167 runs at an average of 41.75. Ross Taylor of Kiwis is at second while the southpaw Shikhar Dhawan is at top of the chart with 182 runs.

The fifth and final ODI of the series is set to be played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington on February 3rd. It will be followed by 3-match T20I series, which will conclude the overseas stint of the team ahead of ICC World Cup 2019.
