Former Team India skipper Sourav Ganguly is of the opinion Windies have to play out of their skin against India. If the visitors harbor any hopes of coming close to India. Virat Kohli-men is currently the number one ranked Test side despite their 4-1 series defeat against England. Ganguly feels Windies have a mountain to climb and have to play out of their skin to stand a chance against the home team.

The last time Windies won a Test match in India was way back in 1994. When they toured India last time, both the Tests were finished within three days. India traveled to West Indies in 2016 and won the series 2-0. To add to that Windies doesn’t have a team who looks like defeating India in latter’s territory. Thus, if they do manage to beat India or even draw any of the Tests, it will be a huge achievement for them.

Sourav Ganguly feels Windies need to play out of their skin against India

“It’s back to Test match cricket for India on Thursday, this time at home, against the West Indies which is definitely a shadow of the team it used to be. This is a West Indies going through a rebuilding process, and it takes a lot to get back to where you were. For this side, it will indeed be a mountain to climb; Jason Holder and his boys will surely have to play out of their skin to stand up to Virat Kohli’s team,” Sourav Ganguly wrote in his column for The Times of India.

It must be noted that Windies have played some impressive cricket in their own backyard. However, when it comes to playing in India it will be a different ball game altogether. The dynamics of the game changes quickly when a Test match is played in India. Windies toiled quite hard to get the wickets on the first day of the opening Test at Rajkot as India piled on 364 runs.

“The West Indies have been playing good cricket in their backyard over the past few months and their showing has been appreciable. But in India, the dynamics of the game change. Their fast bowlers will need to toil more to get wickets here, their batsmen will have to show more grit and determination while facing the Indian spinners and, importantly, they will need to be mentally tough to stand up to situations,” he added.
