Team India, who will be high on confidence after a thrilling win in Hyderabad, will look seal the series when they play West Indies in the second game on December 8 (Sunday) in Thiruvananthapuram. Skipper Virat Kohli led the host to a brilliant win with an unbeaten 94-run knock in pursuit of 208 runs set by the Caribbeans batting first, who will hope to repeat a similar batting effort.

However, West Indies will have to work on their bowling unit, who gave 23 extras which cost them the match despite a brilliant effort from their batters. The likes of Shimron Hetmyer and skipper Kieron Pollard was on song with the bat after Evin Lewis set it up. But the bowlers lose control of the match against a magnificent Virat Kohli. They will have to work on their bowling department and come out blazing against a pumped-up Indian side.

India, meanwhile, will mainly concentrate on their fielding as the stocks were down in the last game. There were plenty of misfields and drops which helped West Indies continue their onslaught with the bat. The bowling was also a let-down, and the management will hope to fix the gaps ahead of the second game of the series.

Here is what the captains said,

Virat Kohli

Not too bad, we would have bowled first as well, dew might be a factor. Toss is an uncontrollable. It’s a nice and hard pitch, much drier. I think it should be a pretty good pitch to bat on during the first half. It’s not a worry; we haven’t defended too many totals in the past. We might not have reacted well. It’s a mindset thing; it’s all about belief. Every game counts, we’ll try to do things that we have not done in the past, we’ll try to execute those. I learnt a lot from the last innings. That’s the biggest revelation for me – if you never give up, things can change. I am happy to contribute; it might not be your day every day. It’s the same team we are playing with.

Kieron Pollard

We are gonna bowl first. If you look at it, we want to come out and have a feel of it. We need to restrict them to a low total. We can’t be critical on the batsmen, every time you score 200; you win a game. Hopefully, we come out and do things right today. We have some plans for the batsmen; we need to keep them from scoring. We need to execute our yorkers; we have been practising. Pressure is playing in front of thousands. One change, Pooran is back, Ramdin misses out.
