The Windies bagged a couple of crucial wickets in the 2nd session of the 1st Test in Rajkot to look in a better position in the 1st Paytm Test match against India. However, India won the toss and elected to bat first. The home team lost KL Rahul without bothering the scorers. From there on, it was a sensational 206-run stand between Prithvi Shaw and Cheteshwar Pujara which brought India back into the game. It was some exceptional display of batsmanship by both the batsmen.

However, India went to lunch in a comfortable position. After coming back after the opening session, the two batters looked in complete command of proceedings and struck some beautiful shots in the process. Both Shaw and Pujara played some exceptional shots and made light work of the Windies bowlers. Shaw, in particular, took on Devendra Bishoo with utter disdain.

The debutant smashed boundaries at will and never looked overawed by the prospect of his Test debut. Cheteshwar Pujara, on the other hand, played a bit freely and quickly than what he generally does. The duo looked in complete command and took the partnership over the 200-run mark. Debutant Sherman Lewis eventually dismissed Pujara.

Later, it was the Indian team skipper Virat Kohli who walked out to the crease at the fall of Pujara’s wicket and was seen comforting Prithvi after he entered the field. Prithvi struck a couple more good shots before falling cheaply to Devendra Bishoo.

Prithvi attempted to close the face of the bat. However, due to the turn, the ball bounced took the upper part of his bat which was safely pouched by the bowler. Shaw looked in total disbelief. It was indeed a pretty soft dismissal especially for a player who had already made 134. When tea was taken, India had lost three wickets for 232 runs.
