Day 2 of the 1st Test between India and Windies went to hosts, as they pushed the visitors to a complete corner. Unless there is a sensational fightback by the Windies, they are all set to lose the Test within the next two days. However, it was a horrendous batting display by Windies, as they finished the day’s play on 94/6 after they had toiled hard on the field and conceded 649 runs on the board.

India started the day’s play with Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant at the crease. Pant, in particular, started on a dominating fashion and kept smashing the Windies bowlers to all parts of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot. Rishabh Pant smashed eight fours and four sixes en route to 92 off 84 deliveries.

Virat Kohli also reached his 24th Test century and his appetite of scoring Test centuries is just not diminishing a single bit. He treats every opposition with disdain and loves piling on the runs. Meanwhile, it was a great knock from the skipper who played the 2nd fiddle to Rishabh Pant. However, the best innings of the day were yet to come.

It was Ravindra Jadeja who struck his maiden Test century and delighted the Rajkot crowd with some audacious strokeplay. He kept plundering the Windies bowlers all around the park en route to his maiden Test century. His unbeaten knock of 100 studded with 5 five fours and five gigantic sixes. Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami’s steady resistance towards the end eventually helped Jaddu score his maiden Test century.

Virat Kohli eventually declared the innings just after Jadeja completed his century. The home team began quite brilliantly with two quick wickets in no time. It was a great spell of bowling by Mohammed Shami. He ran in fast and bagged the wickets of skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Kieran Powell. From there on, it was the spinners who kept on the good work.

Ravichandran Ashwin bagged two crucial wickets while Jadeja chipped in with one. There was a comedy of errors from the Windies, as Shimron Hetmyer was run out in the most unlikely fashion. Eventually, the Windies finished the day’s play on 94/6.
