Rohit Sharma got a narrow escape during team India’s chase in the fifth one-day international against Windies at Thiruvananthapuram on November 1 (Thursday).

Meanwhile, India put in yet another clinical display in all the departments as they beat Windies by nine wickets. With 2-1 down, the visitors’ had to win this fixture to finish the series on the even stevens. However, under overcast skies, on a sticky pitch, and with dew expected later, Jason Holder’s decision to bat against an inspired Indian side was akin to shooting himself in the foot. The hosts took full advantage of the situation to bowl out Windies for 104, their lowest ODI total against India.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit produced early wickets to push Windies 2 for 2. Marlon Samuels tried to steady the innings, but the introduction of Ravindra Jadeja on a pitch with some moisture brought more trouble for the Windies. He returned with four wickets to reduce the Caribbeans for 104 runs.

The chase looked like a cakewalk for India with their star batter in prime form. However, against the run of play, Oshanee Thomas cleaned up Shikhar Dhawan’s woodwork in the second over of the chase. Since then, two inform batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma looked in absolute control of things as they crossed the fifty-run mark with ease.

However, Rohit Sharma went through a lucky escape as Thomas bowled a no ball, thus the ill luck for the bowler continues.

It was back of a length and nipped away to take the edge. The keeper took it easily, and Rohit was walking back when he saw the no-ball call being made. It was a huge no-ball, and Thomas can’t believe his luck and neither can his mates.
