To some extent, the emergence of franchise cricket has dent Windies Cricket Board dearly. All their players, who have got enough skills are neglecting the national contract and going after the luxury signings across the world. During the course, the absence of key players made Windies national team pretty weak in the international arena. Meanwhile, Carl Hooper speaks on the same, regarding the absence of Chris Gayle in Windies ODI squad for the India series.

However, Chris Gayle has opted to play in the Afghanistan Premier League 2018 rather than taking part in the ODI series against India. When asked the same, Carl Hooper highlighted the age factor of Chris Gayle to play Tests.

Chris Gayle’s experience would have been great – Carl Hooper

Carl Hooper cited the age of Chris Gayle will make him think over his presence in Test cricket. However, he believes Gayle’s experience would have been a massive boost for the youngsters.

Further, he went on to say the Indian board has nothing to do when Windies’ hasn’t sent their best squad for the competition. Carl Hooper feels Gayle will be present in limited-overs formats. (Unfortunately, Gayle denied playing).

Speaking to CNN-News 18, the reporter Vimal questioned All the big names are missing, even Chris Gayle says he wants to play in the Afghan Premier League. How do you look at this approach? What can the BCCI and the WICB do? Replying it, he added ”BCCI can’t do anything about it, it’s not the BCCI’s fault that we can’t send a full-strength West Indian squad. Gayle is not young but his experience could’ve done wonders on this tour for the youngsters.”

“Indian tours are especially tough and this is where you need your experienced players. Gayle is 38-39, he may be past Test cricket but certainly he’ll be here for the 50-over competition,” he inferred.

Despite Carl Hooper citing the alternative factors, there is no denying the fact that Windies players are after playing in franchise cricket rather than playing for their nation, who is in a pretty bad state.
