India vs Windies 2018: Indians Need to be Better with their Reviews - Courtney Walsh

Of late, the Decision Review System (DRS) has become a worrying sign for team India. Meanwhile, the former Windies great, Courtney Walsh and India’s fast bowler, Ajit Agarkar speak on the issue.

The latest one in the record book has been the poor review taken by KL Rahul. He was plumb in front of the wicket when Gabriel bowled an inswinger through his defence. Still, he went for the review only to lose it.

On the other day in Asia Cup 2018, KL Rahul’s mistake led to the dismissals of Dinesh Karthik and MS Dhoni, as they couldn’t take the review, which was already by KL Rahul in an unfortunate case.

Speaking of the same, Courtney Walsh feels the non-striker should be honest with his decision to his partner. Further, he added when it comes to fielding, bowler and the wicketkeeper holds the key.

”What most teams try is to trust the partners in the middle. And, he should be honest while giving his decision in a fair manner. When you are on the field, most of the times, it will be judged on the basis of the decision by the wicketkeeper or a bowler,” Courtney Walsh explained.

”In some cases, the batsman feels that he edged the ball where the non-striker can’t do much. There will be situations. Yes, India needs to be a bit better in their decisions,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ajit Agarkar feels the review by KL Rahul was pretty poor, as it was plumb. He also accepted the fact that the batsman will be selfish in some cases. Ajit stressed again saying that only sometimes, the batsman will be selfish.

”Sometimes, selfish. It was really poor. To put Prithvi Shaw in that situation and I know that Rahul is looking for some runs. It was always hitting the stumps. Maybe, it won’t hurt India in the current context of the game but on the other days, it might become crucial for India,” he added.

However, the Indian team management needs to work on those areas to avoid problems in the future. Though it is tough to make calls on the reviews, the individual in question need to re-think before going for it.
