Former South African batsman Jonty Rhodes has heaped praise on Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Rhodes is mighty impressed by the conversion rates of Virat Kohli. Kohli has scored 36 ODI hundreds and 24 Test hundreds and his conversion rate of converting a fifty into a big hundred is second to none. Thus, Jonty Rhodes believes Virat Kohli is a modern day great.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s masterclass was on once again on display when he scored a blistering knock of 140 off just 107 balls in the first ODI against Windies. Kohli was able to hit the ground running as he scored his runs with utmost ease. Therefore, Kohli has ticked the right boxes and his consistency is the best in the world.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were able to put together an alliance of 246 runs. Rhodes said Virat Kohli was just unstoppable as he was more aggressive.

Jonty Rhodes said while talking to Sportstar, “It was a dominating show and the duo batted beautifully, especially Kohli. Kohli’s batting has been a treat to watch – nothing to take away from Rohit – but Kohli looks simply unstoppable”.

The former best fielder of the world went on to add that Virat Kohli might not score the same amount of runs as Sachin Tendulkar. However, Rhodes believes Virat Kohli is already a modern day great.

“I am just blown away by his conversion rates and his sheer consistency. When I was a player, I got three Test and two ODI hundreds. I got a lot of the fifties (17 Test and 33 ODI 50’s) but I couldn’t really convert my fifties into big hundreds. But look at Kohli’s conversions rates and it’s phenomenal. You straightaway compare him with Tendulkar, who started at 16 and played till he was 40. I don’t think with the amount of cricket Kohli is playing he will be able to get that amount of runs but he is certainly a modern day great. The sheer determination to keep winning games for India makes him a special cricketer”.

India vs Windies 2018: Jonty Rhodes Heaps Praise on Virat Kohli

On the other hand, Jonty Rhodes believes India is going to be a strong contender for the next year World Cup. India has dominated in white ball version and has quality players in their ranks.

“I feel the sub-continent teams will do well and India, of course, is a very strong contender. The last Champions Trophy was played in England and three out of four teams were from the sub-continent. Playing Tests in England is challenging for sub-continent teams but when it comes to white ball cricket, it’s a different ball game altogether. It’s just not about pace and swing as spin will come into play and India has quality spinners. India definitely has the edge but you can’t underestimate the rest”.

Virat Kohli is doing a fine job for the Indian team. Kohli’s consistency is unparallel and he is making scoring runs look effortless. Kohli and India will look to continue in a similar fashion.
