India’s veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has a piece of advice for mystery chinaman Kuldeep Yadav. The southpaw spinner has had a good start to his career. Ashwin said Kuldeep Yadav has got a plethora of variations in his armory. However, Ashwin said Kuldeep’s real challenge will begin when batsmen will start to pick him. Thus, Kuldeep will need to bowl with guile.

Kuldeep Yadav could not make the cut for the first ODI against the Windies. However, he was able to find his place in the second ODI. The mystery spinner has achieved great success in the recent past and he will like to continue in a similar fashion.

The real challenge will start when batsmen will start to pick him.

He praised Kuldeep Yadav but had a word of caution. “Kuldeep has leg break, googly and ability to deceive batsmen. But challenge starts as batsmen will start reading him better. That’s when he will need to adapt but we have a good support system in place.”

Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin also talked about his own variations. Ashwin is currently playing for India A in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy. Ashwin said he has added some changes to his bowling.

“I don’t bowl the carrom ball from the top. I bowl from underneath now so that it doesn’t give many trajectories to batsmen and it skids through. I have also developed a few variations with normal off breaks,” he said.

Ashwin went on to add that he is trying to make himself a better bowler. The veteran off-spinner said he doesn’t try to listen to all the experts.

“During a Test match in Sydney (2014), experts said a spinner should go for wickets and when I went for wickets, they said I should be bowling tight and give break to fast bowlers. Now, this is the wall I hit all the time. So the battle is within me as I can’t keep looking outside.”

It looks a like a difficult road for Ravichandran Ashwin to return to the ODI side. Ashwin will have to come up with eye-catching performances in the domestic circuit. Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav is doing a fine job for India.
