India vs Windies 2018: Rishabh Pant is Team India's Future Star - Sourav Ganguly

With MS Dhoni staying away from the team, initially, it was puzzled over whom between Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik would take the glovework? Though the analysts felt Rishabh Pant will take up the wicketkeeper role, surprisingly, India asked Dinesh Karthik to do the job for the team. However, it didn’t serve well to Sourav Ganguly.

Team India went with Dinesh Karthik in the first T20I game at Eden Gardens and most probably, he would continue to do so in the remaining games as well. With no MS Dhoni in the squad for the Australian tour, he will continue the work their as well.

The former Indian skipper wants team management to give more burden to Rishabh Pant, who is going to be the future star. Further, he went on to add Pant should be given gloves in ODI in absence of MS Dhoni.

Sourav Ganguly also made it clear he is not understating Dinesh Karthik’s skills but wants the youngster to learn in order to yield results in future. He feels that taking wicketkeeper gloves will help Rishabh deliver with the bat as well.

“Rishabh Pant should be played as a wicketkeeper-batsman, while Dinesh Karthik should play only batsman’s role. Because Pant is our Test wicket-keeper and as time passes, he will be our key player in ODIs too. It necessary that he should be given responsibility to keep the wicket,” Sourav Ganguly said as while talking to IndiaTV.

“Pant is our future and he will play for a long time for India. We witnessed it in Test cricket that in last 2-3 Test matches, he batted extremely well and right now he may be the best wicketkeeper-batsman we have,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Well, as Sourav Ganguly said, handing wicketkeeper gloves to Rishabh Pant might work in India’s favor. Meanwhile, it would be interesting to see whether Team India would consider Ganguly’s suggestion.
