Indian captain Virat Kohli said the selection of squad is not a part of his job. The Indian selectors had surprisingly dropped Karun Nair for the Windies series. Interestingly, Karun Nair had not played any Test matches on the England tour. He was likely to be part of the playing XI for the fifth and final Test match. However, Hanuma Vihari had made the cut into the last XI.

Thus, it was a surprise to note when Karun Nair could not get his well-deserved chance. Furthermore, Nair was dropped from the squad against the Windies, which has added salt to the injury for Nair. The Karnataka batsman didn’t play any match on England tour, thus on what ground he was dropped from the squad.

Karun Nair has been a bit unfortunate.

Meanwhile, it is well known that it is selectors job to select a squad for a particular series. On the other hand, the captain finalizes the playing XI for a particular match. Kohli said selectors have already spoken to Karun Nair.

“Selectors have already spoken about it and it is not my place to say. There are selectors doing their job. You can conveniently merge everything and make it a circle where everyone is doing their job and not focusing on what people are saying on the outside,” Kohli said on the pre-match press conference at Rajkot.

Everyone is doing their respective roles.

Virat Kohli went on to add that the team’s focus is on the match. The selection committee has done its job and Kohli doesn’t find himself to be the right person to answer these questions.

“If a person has spoken about it already, it should not be brought in here again. The chief selector has already spoken to the player of what I know. I don’t think I need to comment on that. Selection is not my job. As a team, we are doing what we should do. Everyone should be aware of their respective jobs.”

It was harsh on Karun Nair to not get pick for the Windies series. He didn’t get his chance on the England tour and now finds himself out of the team without even playing any match.
