Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly said Windies captain Jason Holder’s captaincy has been impressive. The Windies has made a fine comeback in the series. Subsequently, Jason Holder has played a huge role in inspiring his team after the ignominious Test defeat. In fact, the tourists should be appreciated for the way they have bounced back. They have put a far better performance and it is palpable in the result as the series is tied at 1-1.

Meanwhile, Shimron Hetmyer has been a big positive for the Windies. The southpaw batsman has played with confidence and has done a fine job for the visitors. The left-hander had scored a fine hundred in the first match and followed it with another good performance of 94 runs.

Furthermore, Shai Hope has also come to the party. Hope had scored a fine hundred in the second ODI and went on to score a match-winning 95 in the previous match. Thus, it has been a collective effort from the Windies.

Windies have punched above weight.

“What the West Indies missed out on by a whisker at Vizag was achieved by them at Pune on Saturday. It was indeed an impressive victory by Jason Holder and his boys which means that the series is now set up nicely for some exciting cricket over the last two games. After a very one-sided Test series, the West Indies have really put up a very impressive show in limited-overs. Holder has been impressed with his leadership abilities and the likes of Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, and Ashley Nurse have indicated that all is not down in the dumps for Caribbean cricket,” Sourav Ganguly wrote in his column for Times of India.

Virat Kohli – The lone warrior.

On the other hand, India’s captain Virat Kohli has again found himself to be the lone warrior. Kohli had scored a fine hundred in the last match. However, his knock went in vain as India went on lose by 43 runs. Meanwhile, Kohli can go past Sachin Tendulkar records of hundred centuries. Kohli has 62 International tons with 38 in ODIs and 24 in Test matches.

“Coming to India, once again it has totally been a Virat Kohli show. One is at a loss of words when it comes to talking about his superlative talent. There are already a lot of comparisons. Some are saying his talent and domination are of ‘Bradmansque’ proportions, some are already commenting on whether he will go past the Sachin ‘100’. Comparisons have also featured Brian Lara and Viv Richards but my point is simple: let statistics take care of themselves. Rather, what we should be doing is sitting back and enjoying this man’s class. Along with his ability as a player what stands out is his hunger for runs,” Ganguly said.

Meanwhile, Ganguly believes KL Rahul should not be warming the benches. In fact, India has shown their trust in Ambati Rayudu for the number four slot. Thus, India needs to sort the middle order woes.

“India has a lot to think about. I still believe Lokesh Rahul shouldn’t be sitting out. Jasprit Bumrah has once again shown he is different but one has to take note of the unit as a whole because in three matches the opponents have scored more than 900 runs and that too in Indian conditions. The middle-order desperately needs to be given a good look. The selectors are leaving it too late,” Ganguly concluded.

Jason Holder has led his team with aplomb. Meanwhile, India will like to find the missing pieces in their jigsaw. The middle order has crumbled on many occasions and Men in Blue must come up with better answers.
