Despite sending the second string side, the Windies batsmen surprised Indians by knocking the massive tally on the board. However, the brilliance of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had made the things look bleak for the visitors. Meanwhile, the former Indian great, Sunil Gavaskar gave his piece of advice to the Windies’ players.

The legendary cricketer feels Windies batsmen are going for the rash shots, which is seeing them be on the wrong side of the things. He also cited the concerns in their bowling lineup, which missed discipline.

Sunil Gavaskar went on to say the set batsmen, Keron Powell, Shai Hope and Rovman Powell handed their wickets after getting good starts. He feels they need to carry on with the flow rather than attempting rash shots.

”The West Indies have themselves to blame, for some of their batsmen played shots that were unnecessary at that stage of their innings and so missed out on adding another 20 or 30 runs that could well have made the difference,”Sunil Gavaskar wrote to Times of India.

”Kieran Powell chucked his wicket away after getting a half century, like Shai Hope and Rovman Powell. If only they had looked at the scoreboard and seen how many more overs were still remaining, they perhaps wouldn’t have played rash shots. They can take a leaf out of the books of Sharma and Kohli, especially the Indian skipper whose first lofted shot was only after he reached his hundred,” he added.

Vizag pitch will give support spinners:

Further, he also spoke on the Visakhapatnam conditions, which would help the spinners. He feels the bowlers might be in the safe place with pitch assisting the bowlers, unlike Guwahati’s track.

”Vizag has a pitch that helps the spinners and so the bowlers may not get the tonking they did in Guwahati, but that’s always a good experience to learn from. Should India bring in Kuldeep? Hetmyer, who got a hundred at Guwahati, was dismissed thrice in the Tests by the chinaman bowler,” he inferred.

However, it would be interesting to see how Windies players approach the game in the 2nd ODI of the series. Probably, both teams would prefer an extra-spinner on the Vizag wicket.
