Strange things have happened in cricket in the past and strange records have been set by players and teams of different leagues. From school cricket to international cricket, cricketers have done some strange things that have taken the fans by surprise. These records have not just surprised fans and also given them disbelief. The Indian team has had a fair share of records to its name some to be proud of and some not really.

One such humiliating record came India’s way during their tour of England in 1952 under the captaincy of Vijay Hazare where they played a four Test series. India had a decent outing with the bat in the first two Tests but anyhow ended up on the losing side in both the Tests.

This wasn’t the case the in the third Test in Manchester. England won the toss and chose to bat first on a wicket which had help for the bowlers early on. However, the English batsmen had different ideas as they began their innings with a positive intent. Sir Len Hutton, who was England’s captain in the series, scored a patient 104 to set up a big score of 347/9d.

He was equally supported by Peter May who scored 69 runs and Godfrey Evans who scored 71 runs. The Indian bowlers had a disappointing outing in the match as they were unable to bowl out the English batsmen.

But, it was the batsmen who had a real miserable day in the field. It was the only occasion when the Indian team was bowled out twice in a day. This is the only instance in the history of Indian cricket when the Indian team was bowled out twice in a day. In the first innings, India was all out for just 58 runs. Vijay Manjrekar and Vijay Hazare were the only two batsmen to have gone past 10 runs. Manjrekar was the highest scorer in the match with 22 runs.

In the second innings, the Indian batsmen bettered their first innings score and scored 82 runs and the match was over on the third day. Hemu Adhikari top scored with 27 runs.

For England, Fred Trueman picked up eight wickets in the first innings and Sir Alec Bedser picked up five wickets in the second innings.

England went on to win the four match series 4-0.

The other team to have such a record to there is Zimbabwe as they have been bowled out twice in a day two times i.e. 2005 and 2011 against New Zealand.
