Shubman Gill, on Friday, caused a huge controversy with his unexpected and surprising action while playing for Punjab against Delhi in Ranji Trophy. He had his dismissal overturned after allegedly abusing the main umpire who was making his debut in Ranji Trophy.

Furious with the umpire’s call, Shubman Gill walked up to him and had a heated discussion before the official overturned his decision. The unexpected turn of events led to stoppage of play for around 10 minutes. The right-handed batsman refused to leave the crease after he was adjudged caught-behind by slow-medium bowler Subodh Bhati.

And when the umpire overturned his decision, Delhi players were taken aback by it and unsurprisingly questioned him for the same. Things eventually came under control when the match referee intervened. Shubman Gill, who was batting on 10 when the controversy took place, didn’t last long as he edged one off Simarjeet Singh to Anuj Rawat for 23 off 41 balls.

Bedi blasts Shubman Gill:

Legendary India cricketer Bishan Singh Bedi blasted Shubman Gill for his actions and called his behaviour as ‘rowdy’ and ‘unpardonable.’ He took to Twitter to give his opinion on the same when asked whether the BCCI should educate gifted players on how to respect umpires.

“This kind of rowdy behaviour by anyone is unpardonable-least o all by proposed Capt of India A,” tweeted Bedi when asked by a senior journalist to react on the incident.

Bedi also hinted that Gill should be removed from captaincy of India A till the match referee takes an official, writing:

“No matter how talented no player was ever bigger than the game-example needs setting. Let a more balanced person lead India A before the referee’s intimidated to decision on it. “

Showing dissent to the umpire’s decision is a breach of the ‘Code of Conduct’ and there is a possibility that match referee P Ranganathan will have a word with the player. Gill could either be let off with a warning or could be charged with a Level 1 offence. Meanwhile, Delhi has decided not to register a complaint against the youngster.
