With the ICC World Cup 2019 looming ahead, former Indian cricketer, VVS Laxman seemed worried about the Indian pace attack despite significant improvement in recent times.

Moreover, the Hyderabadi legend applauds Indian batting standards but not happy with the bowling unit in ODI cricket. Meanwhile, VVS Laxman is pretty pleased with the recent Indian pace attack in Test cricket. However, he feels that they are not putting their best effort in the white-ball format.

“We have a settled batting unit, but I am not too sure on the bowling front,” Laxman said during an interaction with TOI on Thursday. “I am happy with the bowlers’ recent show with the red cherry. But as for white-ball cricket I feel they are still not still not ready, mainly in the pace bowling department,” he stated.

Moreover, Laxman appreciated Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav for their excellent show in the ODI cricket. The duo is currently pivotal behind India’s success in the white-ball format. In addition to, he also added that Virat Kohli’s men are mainly dependent on Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah. It has been seen over the past that India had suffered a lot of difficulties if any of them sustain an injury.

“We have good spinners in (Yuzvendra) Chahal and Kuldeep (Yadav), but we are too dependent on Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar), and (Jasprit) Bumrah in ODIs. Whenever these two have been injured, the team has suffered,” VVS Laxman added.

The right-hander was in all praise for the way Indian pacers have performed in the longer format of the game. Moreover, VVS Laxman picked instances from the Adelaide Test to laud the fast bowlers.

“Previously our pacers used to provide early breakthroughs but would fizzle out as the game progressed. But now I am impressed to see them firing even in their third or fourth spells. Just see how they bowled on the last day of the Adelaide Test when there was not much assistance from the pitch. They are a lot fitter unit now, which is yielding results on the field.” VVS Laxman pointed out.
