The much-anticipated Test series between India and Australia is set to get underway in a week. For the first time in years, India won’t be facing the favourites at home. Also, Farokh Engineer felt the same. Meanwhile, a depleted Australian side is still learning to stand its ground and produce performances to boost their legacy. The visitors are eyeing for glory, as the hosts will be without the services of Steven Smith and David Warner.

Former India wicket-keeper, Farokh Engineer said Kohli’s men “will never have a better chance” than what it does now of sealing a Test series victory Down Under.

However, Smith and Warner are currently serving their respective bans imposed by Cricket Australia. The duo along with Cameron Bancroft was found guilty of ‘ball-tampering’, and was ruled out to play top-flight cricket.

“India will never have a better chance of beating Australia,” he said. Australia are a pretty ordinary team at the moment without these two people (Smith and Warner), and we should make the best of this opportunity.” said Engineer, who has played 46 Test matches for India and claimed 82 dismissals.

Meanwhile, the 80-year-old praised skipper Kohli for leading his troops well. The Indian captain had faced a lot of flak for his over-the-top statements in recent times, but Engineer feels Kohli is the right man.

“India are playing very good cricket; we have a great captain in Virat Kohli, he is doing superbly well,” he said.

However, the Indian pace attack was impressive in England this year. Engineer feels the side is balanced and are capable of creating history this time around.

“We have got a good all-round side, good pace bowlers, good spinners, so let’s take advantage of that and beat Australia in Australia, which we should be doing, and we will be doing God willing,” he said.
