Former Australia batsman, Dean Jones lavished praise on young rising talents of the Indian Premier League. He singled out Shubman Gill, Mayank Markande and the KKR speedster Shivam Mavi

Markande has bagged the most wickets by an uncapped bowler in the competition so far. He started off the tournament quite brilliantly. However, in the last few matches, his form faded away a bit, and he would look to get his rhythm back ahead of Mumbai’s all-important and must-win clash against the Delhi Daredevils on Sunday.

Shubman Gill has been quite impressive also in the limited chances he has got to bat. He scored a match-winning half-century in one of the earlier games against the Chennai Super Kings at home. After being elevated up the order, he batted through and scored a fluent half-century which came in pretty quick time.

Meanwhile, Shivam Mavi has also been quite lethal. However, on occasions, he has leaked runs.

Meanwhile, the former Aussie batsman Dean Jones is a part of the Star-Sports Select Dug-out experts for the IPL. Jones spoke at a mall last evening to promote his book Dean Jones’ Cricket Tips which was published by Westland Publications Limited.

“The one I have been impressed (with) the most is Shubman Gill. (He is) more of a classical player. I think Prithvi (Shaw of Delhi Daredevils) has got a couple of holes in his technique here and there and will get better. He is a very good player. They are just kids, these boys are just 18 (years-old), and these guys are smashing sixes and fours and winning games in T20 cricket,” he said.

Speaking on Markande, Jones said he has been pretty impressed with the young leggie.

“Markande has been great, and I have loved him. (Shivam) Mavi (of KKR)- I have been impressed with how he has gone with his work. I also like Karun Nair (Kings XI). He has not quite done a lot yet, but he is around for a long time and has got a triple hundred (in Tests). I always like the way he goes about his game. And K L Rahul (Kings XI) – an absolute super-star,” Jones said.

The three-time champions, Mumbai Indians have still kept themselves afloat in the tournament after a string of losses, to begin with.

Jones termed the Mumbai Indians as “comeback kids.”

“They are the comeback kids, no doubt about that. They have still not qualified yet. If Rishabh Pant goes off in the last game, anything can happen. Now they have started getting it right,” Jones signed off.
